As 2024 quickly ends,
now is the time many people sit and reflect
on the past year. They think about everything that has happened within the last year, the good and the bad. We think of ways to correct the bad and build off the good times. The same goes for the West Virginia Damage Prevention Board. It has been a great year. A year for growth, a year for change, and a year for new beginnings. It is also a time to set new goals and aspirations for the new year, a fresh start if you will, and that is exactly what the West Virginia Damage Prevention Board (WVDPB) plans to do.
From the Damage Prevention Board
Brandon Hahn
Executive Secretary
WV Damage Prevention Board
The WVDPB has made progress
by leaps and bounds this year and
looks forward to doing even more in 2025. Complaints were filed in record numbers this year. The obvious result was violations of the state’s dig law
are at a record high as well. Some may think that is a bad thing, but we look at it a little differently. We know that those violations occurred in the past but were going unreported.
Thanks to all of you who have committed to filing the Alleged Violation Reports (AVR) in 2024. By giving the WVDPB the opportunity to confirm a violation occurred, it allowed us to provide specific training for violations. That means more people than ever have been given
the knowledge and tools to dig safer, prevent damage or possibly worse. With the support of WV 811 and its members the WVDPB’s presence has grown throughout the state. More and more excavators, contractors, homeowners and utility owners are utilizing the process established by law, so that the WVDPB can do its part to help protect the vital infrastructure in the state.
Be on the lookout for more free educational opportunities and classes across the state. We have some exciting news that will be sent out soon so watch your email for more information. We look forward to this next year and what it holds for the WVDPB.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us at the WVDPB.
