  From the
Damage
Prevention
Board
On behalf of the West Virginia Damage Prevention Board (WVDPB), I have been busy throughout the state this year getting the word out on everything damage prevention. Working hand in hand with WV 811 we have traveled all over the state and conducted 100 classes educating contractors, utility owners and homeowners alike about the ins and outs of not only 811, but damage prevention. We have seen an increase in the number of alleged violations filed compared to last year and still going strong. We are on track to more than double the number of alleged violations filed.
As 2024 nears an end, we look forward to doing more in 2025 to raise the awareness in West Virginia to call before you dig, to locate on time and to dig safely around those marks.
Plans are already being developed on how to best get the word out not only about damage prevention, but about the process of filing complaints, about who the damage prevention board is and what is exactly their role in the process.
We have set up training sessions with Ohio 811 in November to educate contractors who work both states about the 811 laws in each state. This is a great opportunity to educate contractors on the damage prevention procedures and remind them that they have options when it comes to those who do not respect and follow the dig law in both states.
